What Is a Hydraulic Washing Lift?
A hydraulic washing lift (also known as a vehicle washing hoist or car wash lift) is a platform which draws power from hydraulics in order to elevate a vehicle to the necessary working height so that its underbody can easily be cleaned, inspected and rust-proofed. While flat ramps tend to be immobile, hydraulic lifts provide more accuracy in terms of height control, maintain stability during operation and allow for a faster lift-lower cycle; hence, they allow for washing 30-50 cars a day in just one bay.
How Does a Hydraulic Washing Lift Work?
A hydraulic washing lift operates under the principles of a hydraulic pump and cylinder system. When the operator operates the control valve, hydraulic fluid gets pressed into the cylinder. This action causes the rod to move upward, allowing the platform to rise to the required level.
Keeping the valve in the same position locks the vehicle at the required height. The return of the fluid causes the platform to return downwards slowly. The Schumak washing lifts feature specially designed wiper rings which prevents dirt and water from getting into the hoist cylinder during the operation and gland rings in pistons in order to ensure the proper functionality throughout the life of the machinery.
Types of Washing Lifts We Manufacture
Schumak manufactures several washing lift configurations, each suited to a different bay layout and vehicle type:
- Single Post Washing Lift (1 Ton) — compact, ideal for two-wheeler washing and lubrication bays
- H-Type & Spider Arm Washing Lifts (4 Ton) — the standard choice for sedans, hatchbacks, and SUVs
- TRP (Tyre Rest Platform) Washing Lifts — combine washing with tyre servicing in one cycle
- Twin Post Washing Lifts (8–25 Ton) — open-floor design for commercial vehicles, buses, and heavy fleet
- Interactive / Underbody Inspection Lift — low-profile scissor lift with HP power pack for pre-delivery inspection
Single Post vs Twin Post: Which Layout Fits Your Garage?
Single post washing lifts (like our 1 Ton model) are compact and built for two-wheeler washing and lubrication bays where floor space is limited. As capacity increases, twin post configurations (available from 8 Ton up to 25 Ton) offer an open-floor design that gives technicians unrestricted access underneath the vehicle — better suited to commercial vehicles, buses, and fleet operations where a single central post would get in the way.
If you’re running a mixed bay handling both passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, our 4 Ton H-Type and Spider Arm models bridge the gap with a stable single-post design rated for higher loads.

Why Choose Schumak as Your Washing Lift Manufacturer
Basically, you can rely on our 1 Ton lift for two-wheelers, our 2 or 4 Ton lift for hatchbacks and sedans, and our 4 Ton H-Type or TRP lift for SUVs, MUVs and light commercial vehicles. For all commercial fleets such as buses and trucks, you need to use 8 Ton and above lifts to wash.
Installation & Site Requirements
Every Schumak hydraulic washing lift is built to support both indoor and outdoor installation, with anchor-bolt mounting rather than pit excavation — so most garages can install a lift into an existing bay without major civil work.
